Reasons for the lack of growth
The reasons for the lack of growth of tomato seedlings can actually be many, let's look in more detail at the most common.
The temperature regime plays one of the important roles for seedlings. In different periods of seedling growth, for proper formation, you need a different temperature.
When the tomato seeds just hatch and cotyledonous leaves appear, it is advisable to move the plant to a relatively cool place where the daytime temperature will be 16-18 ° C, and at night it will drop slightly lower, to 13-15 ° C. Such temperature conditions will be needed until a real leaf begins to form in the sprouts.
Further, the tomatoes need warmth and in the future for the next 30-40 days or until the appearance of the third true leaf, the tomatoes need a temperature in the region of 20-21 ° C - during the day and 16-17 ° C - at night.
Seedlings should be watered with warm, settled water. Excess watering is also not allowed. Tomato is a thermophilic plant and tolerates a slight drought better than overflow. Plants should “breathe” if they constantly water tomato seedlings, the pores will be flooded and the roots will not have enough air. Also, if the temperature regime is not observed, and watering is too frequent, then the young roots can freeze on cold window sills.
Attention! The signal that tomato seedlings need watering will be the dried topsoil, about 1 cm deep.
Unlike cucumbers, if tomato seedlings dry out a bit, then after watering it quickly recovers.
Lack or excess of fertilizing
How often to fertilize tomato seedlings depends on what quality of soil you used for planting tomatoes on seedlings.
If the soil is rich, then fertilizing is not necessary. Usually young tomatoes are fertilized for the first time, 10-12 days after the dive. For top dressing, nitrofosk can be used. The solution is as follows: dilute 1 tablespoon of the substance in 10 liters of water. The second time you can feed the plants 7-10 days before planting seedlings in open ground.
If you followed the rules of irrigation, temperature, the soil was originally fertile, and the seedlings still refused to grow or it had very slow growth, then you can use growth stimulants, such as sodium humate. This dressing is diluted to a consistency, which in color will look like not very strong tea, plants are watered with a solution.
Before planting seedlings in open ground, in about 2 weeks, you need to start seedling hardening. This should be done gradually. You can put tomatoes first for a short time, then lengthen the hardening period on the balcony, if you live in a private house, you can first put seedlings in the afternoon on the street. We begin hardening from 2-3 hours. Remember, the quenching temperature should not be lower than 10-12 ° C.
We wish you a great harvest!
